Savoring the Moments

Right now, as I write this email, I am listening to my mother-in-law, Karlyn Brett as she’s rehearsing a piano solo for our family show this coming Saturday night.

She’s visiting us here in Branson, Missouri, from Spokane, Washington. She’s 90 years young and her fingers still fly on the keys. She’s a true master on the piano.

This reminds me of when my mom used to say, “Andrea, you play the piano. I’ll do the dishes.”

I told my kids the same thing, and just two days ago, I said it to Grandma as she was trying to help me clean up the kitchen. I told her I would much rather have her in our living room providing beautiful music for me to do dishes by.

I’m wishing now that I had just left the dishes altogether to join her in the living room to sit and intentionally listen. No dishes at all. Because these moments are rare and worth savoring.

So, do you know what? That’s what I’m going to do right now. I’m going to leave you and go to the living room to listen to her play. It is such a rare privilege! It would be a shame to miss it!

My dear creative friends, this is just a little December reminder.

It’s the holidays. There is so much to do. We tend to overplan and overschedule.

But sometimes the most creative thing we can do is look for the small, simple, special moments worth savoring.

Then, stop and enjoy.

Always LOVE

Andrea
