Get outta my head!
I read this quote recently and it really made me think…
“Inspiration may be a form of superconsciousness, or perhaps of subconsciousness - I wouldn’t know. But I am sure it is the antithesis of self-consciousness.”
American Composer Aaron Copland
I think self-consciousness is just another way of saying “worrying about what other people think.” We all do that. Way too much. If I’m worried about what others think, it stifles my creativity from the get-go! I end up creating for the wrong reason - to impress somebody - and If I’m creating to impress, I might put constraints on my work that ultimately may make it way less than what it could be.
So may I suggest something?
Try to create something without other people running around in your head! When they pop back in, kick ‘em out again! And again. See what “other-people-less” creating feels like.
The irony is, you will likely create something that others really love because it comes so uniquely from you! But please don’t think about that for now. Just go. Just do.
Free yourself from your self-conscious self!
I think you’ll like the results!
Always LOVE!
