Carving Pumpkins & Other Things

It’s pumpkin carving season.  That is, if you carve pumpkins!

Truth be told, it’s been a very long time (at least ten years) since I’ve carved a pumpkin, because even though I love the end result, it takes 

So. Much. Effort.

It’s more than carving the pumpkin.

It’s carving out the time.

It’s carving out the space.

It’s carving out that messy stuff on the inside.

Hmm.

That sounds strikingly similar to doing our creative work, especially if we only do it every once in a while.

We have to carve out time and space, and often, some messy stuff on the inside. But the end result is always worth it.

And one important principle I’ve learned is that if I carve my creative pumpkins every day, instead of just once in a while, it becomes so much easier. 

So, get to carving, creators!  

Time, space, mess. YES!
