Collaborate to Make it Great!
This past Monday, I got the awesome opportunity to sit in on a studio session with our son, Garon, and band members of the King will come as they worked on the production of a new song. Producer, Todd Tran, was at the board, working his magic.
The truth is, for me, the whole experience was quite magical.
From the “fly on the wall” vantage point, I gained some really important insights on creative collaboration.
I’m going to try to share a few in 90 seconds or less! (Just trying to keep my promise! I'd love to go into more detail, but will keep it short for now, leaving some elaboration for future emails.)
Here goes!
GOOD COLLABORATIONS (fill in the blank ten times!)
Set clear expectations and parameters at the beginning, then go with the flow and don’t get mad about it
Leave both false pride and false humility at the door
Have a “best idea wins” attitude
Ooze with mutual respect
Not only honor, but actually get excited about, the ideas of everyone present
Are a safe place for each collaborator to express themselves
Keep a positive vibe and don't take themselves too seriously
Are not easily offended, and don't ever intentionally offend
Strive for excellence, but don’t overstress about perfection
Invite and acknowledge the presence of the Great Collaborator
I like this quote…
Teamwork makes the dream work! John Maxwell
I witnessed that first-hand on Monday. It was literally a beautiful thing to me. When the KWC song is released, I will share it with you so you can hear what I mean!
Collaboration can be scary, but be on the lookout for opportunities where you can venture out.
Hopefully, these observations will help you in your next creative collab!
Always LOVE!
